Virginia Currie Bates

I attended ASU from 1960-1964 and taught school in Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties for forty-two years. I taught P.E., Social Studies, and finished up with Driver Education. I lived in Charlotte until 2002 when I returned to Laurinburg to the peace and quiet on Shaw Currie Rd. I have been working on fixing up my parents home and hope to move into it some day. I live with my husband Don and our dog Levi(a Yorkie). We have ten grandchildren.

I remember Charlie Parker and how he worked so hard with me with basketball skills. When my parents decided to send us to Laurinburg High School, Mr. Parker came to our tobacco barn and pleaded with us not to leave Wagram. He spent the day with us, grading tobacco and enjoying being with us. Mom sent him home with a box of home made mints.
